Secret of a Dream - String Quartet

Secret of a Dream is a collaboration project between Smee Wong and Angela Sebastian, a modern dance professor at Western Washington University.

Secret of a Dream is a dramatic piece, particularly in movements III and VI. The original titles are in Chinese, and I chose rare characters to evoke a sense of isolation. It is moody and melancholy. If this is a dream, it is meant to be a nightmare. Philip Glass’s String Quartet No. 5 influenced me in writing this piece. I did not want it to resemble typical contemporary (or atonalistic) music. Instead, it sometimes evokes baroque music or minimalism.
